The Zamfara Youth Forum has praised Dr. Bello Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara State and current Minister of State for Defence, for his outstanding leadership during his tenure as governor from 2019 to 2023. The Forum described his governance as a shining example of progress in a state that had previously struggled with neglect and instability.
In a statement issued by the Forum’s spokesperson, Abdulrahman Habibu Gusau, Matawalle’s efforts to address the state’s issues of insecurity, poverty, and leadership failures were highlighted. The Forum emphasized that when Matawalle took office, Zamfara was grappling with rampant insecurity and socio-economic challenges. However, over the course of his four-year tenure, he led transformative initiatives that set the state on a path of recovery and growth.
The Forum particularly commended Matawalle for his focus on infrastructure development, which was one of the defining achievements of his administration. Notable projects included the completion of the Canteen Daji Area road, which improved access for residents, and the rehabilitation of the Kwanar Inno Doya-Sabon Gari Road, which enhanced urban mobility. These efforts were said to have significantly boosted economic activity and made transportation easier for the people of Zamfara.
Further development included revitalizing roads that linked key areas such as the Old Motor Park near Auwal Bread, the railway, and the Government House Road. The Forum also pointed out improvements in suburban roads, including the Kantin Sauki line, which connected Liman Dan Alhaji Sambo’s residence to the Emir’s Palace Mosque, promoting community integration.
Additionally, projects in Kanwuri Gusau, Tudun Wada, and Sabuwar Hanya were cited as crucial developments that enhanced access within the state. The completion of the road from Tsamiya Masaka to Koramar Boko House, linking to Sunny Fast Food, also facilitated seamless movement in these busy areas.
The Forum also recognized Matawalle’s broader impact on the state’s economy, attributing his leadership to the revival of the economy and the restoration of hope for the people. Matawalle’s tenure is viewed as a model of transformative governance, demonstrating what can be achieved through determined leadership, even in challenging circumstances.
“When he assumed office, Zamfara was grappling with rampant insecurity and socio-economic challenges,” the statement read.
“Yet, within four years, Matawalle spearheaded transformative initiatives that set the state on a path of recovery and progress.
” One of the hallmark achievements of his tenure was an unprecedented focus on infrastructure development, particularly in road construction and rehabilitation.
” Other significant projects included the revitalization of roads linking strategic areas like the Old Motor Park near Auwal Bread through the railway and connecting to CIS, the Government House Road, and Jifatu Supermarket. These projects significantly boosted economic activity and ease of transportation,” the Forum noted.
“The road from Tsamiya Masaka to Koramar Boko House, with a link to Sunny Fast Food, was also completed, facilitating seamless movement within these bustling areas,” the Forum added.
Moreover, he credited Matawalle’s efforts with reviving the state’s economy and restoring hope to its people.
