The former Kano State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and the deputy governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 elections, Murtala Sule Garo, has raised concerns about the ongoing rift between Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, two former governors of the state.
The disagreement, which reportedly began in 2016, has caused a significant divide between the two once-close political allies. Garo, during a meeting with former members of the 8th and 9th Kano State House of Assembly, called on the leaders to reconcile for the sake of the state’s progress.
Garo pointed out the contrast with other states, such as Zamfara, where former governors have been able to put aside political differences and work together for the development of their state. He expressed disappointment that in Kano, former governors have not been able to unite and collaborate on issues critical to the state’s advancement.
Emphasizing the need for unity, Garo urged both Kwankwaso and Ganduje to set aside their differences, stressing that reconciliation would be vital for the continued development of Kano State.
“My plea is to our former governors. It is disheartening to see that in a state like Zamfara, which lags behind Kano in many respects, their former governors set aside their political differences to hold meetings and discuss their state’s progress,” Garo remarked.
He continued, “But here in Kano, it is surprising and disappointing that our leaders and elders, the former governors, cannot come together to deliberate on matters that will drive the development of Kano.”
Concluding his appeal, Garo emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “We appeal to them, and we pray for them to reconcile and set aside their differences if they truly desire the progress of Kano State.”
