The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday celebrated the birth of Abuja’s first baby of 2025 at the Asokoro District Hospital.
The baby, Favour Stephen-Odion, a girl weighing 3.6kg, was born to the family of Mr Odion Oyinbo and Mrs Chioma Odion at exactly 12:27 a.m. on January 1.
Senator Tinubu also welcomed other babies born on New Year’s Day, including the first baby boy of 2025, Zimchikachim Ejiofor. He was born to the family of Mr Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs Delight Ejiofor at 7:14 a.m., weighing 3kg.
Represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Nana Shettima, the First Lady extended warm wishes to the newborns and their families, presenting baby gifts, post-natal care products, nutritional supplies, and cash.
“I am here to represent the mother of the nation to welcome the first baby of the year and other children. So, I’m presenting this token and a beautiful package to our dear daughter. I want to wish her well, long life, prosperity, and good health,” she said.
“Insha Allah, they (the first baby and other babies) are the next generation to take over from us. I wish you all the best. Please take good care of her,” she added.
The First Lady advised the mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, immunisation, and timely post-natal care to ensure their children’s healthy growth.
She assured the mothers of the hospital’s continued support, saying, “Good enough, this (Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja) is closer to my house, and I know the hospital will take good care of you.”
In addition to her gifts, the First Lady also presented birth certificates to the first baby of the year and the first baby boy.
During her visit, Senator Tinubu toured the maternity ward and congratulated parents of other newborns.
Dr Rosemary Nwokorie, acting Chief Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its dedication to improving the nation’s healthcare system. She also praised the First Lady and Mrs Shettima for initiating impactful programmes like the *Renewed Hope Initiative*, aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians, particularly women and children.
The event marked a joyful start to the New Year, underscoring the Tinubu administration’s commitment to maternal and child welfare in Nigeria.
