The Executive Chairman b of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, has addressed speculations regarding his potential candidacy in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, confirming that he will not be seeking the position.
Adedeji, who previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State from 2011 to 2015, has been mentioned as a prominent figure who could succeed Governor Seyi Makinde, whose two terms in office will conclude in 2027.
However, the FIRS chairman has now made it clear that he has no intentions of running for the governorship.
In a statement, Adedeji expressed his commitment to focusing on his current role as the head of the FIRS, a position he was appointed to by President Bola Tinubu in September 2023.
He responded directly to the speculations and requests regarding his political future, firmly stating that he would not be contesting the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
Adedeji acknowledged that his decision may disappoint some, but emphasized his dedication to the responsibilities of his current role, noting the grace and responsibilities bestowed upon him.
“I want to use this opportunity to respond to the numerous requests and speculations about my intention to contest the governorship election in Oyo State in 2027,” Adedeji said. “I, Zacch Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027. I know a lot of people would not be happy about this, but everybody knows the responsibility and grace that God has given to us.”
