Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has raised concerns over the Kaduna-Abuja free train ride, introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s government, stating that it has been exploited by thugs.
Recall that the Federal Government announced the initiative offering free train rides to Nigerians traveling during the Christmas season.
The initiative was initially well-received by citizens, but according to Shehu Sani, it has been hijacked by undesirable elements.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Sani expressed his dissatisfaction, noting that thugs have taken control of the Kaduna-Abuja train stations and are using the free service for aimless trips.
He criticized the situation, stating that the initiative, which was intended to ease travel for Christmas, had inadvertently provided an opportunity for thugs to occupy train seats and travel without purpose.
He wrote: “The FG Kaduna-Abuja free train ride is a good gesture that has not helped those travelling for Christmas but provided an opportunity for thugs to take over the station and the train seats, just travelling to and from Abuja without purpose.”
