The Federal Government has pledged to tackle the funding challenges faced by operators and agencies in the Nigerian aviation industry, according to Dr. Ibrahim Kana, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Kana made the commitment during a visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency in Abuja.
He assured the agency that the government recognized the difficulties caused by the fluctuating dollar exchange rate and other financial constraints affecting the sector.
He emphasized that the government was prepared to take the necessary steps to address these challenges.
Kana also expressed his intention to work closely with Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, to secure funding for NAMA’s projects. He acknowledged the crucial role played by the agency in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air navigation in Nigeria, highlighting its strategic importance to the nation’s economic development.
In his remarks, Kana commended NAMA’s staff for their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to achieving organizational goals. He encouraged the staff to continue their collaborative efforts, stressing that teamwork was essential to the agency’s success. Kana also noted that NAMA’s vision of becoming a leading air navigation service provider aligned with both the minister’s strategic goals and President Bola Tinubu’s vision to enhance Nigeria’s aviation sector.
He said: “Teamwork is the foundation of success, and your dedication will continue to propel NAMA to greater heights.”
Earlier, Engr. Ahmed Farouk, the Managing Director of NAMA, expressed appreciation for Kana’s visit, highlighting its significance in reinforcing the government’s support for the agency. Farouk emphasized that NAMA remains a vital part of Nigeria’s aviation operations and acknowledged the challenges the agency faces, particularly in securing funding for critical navigational infrastructure. He noted that some of NAMA’s ongoing projects are currently only halfway completed, with efforts underway to secure additional funding.
Farouk also shared plans for the construction of NAMA’s new corporate headquarters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project is set to be led by Minister Keyamo.
