The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has disclosed that the federal government has submitted most of the necessary documentation for the extradition of Simon Ekpa to Nigeria.
Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator and secessionist, was arrested by Finnish law enforcement authorities on November 21, 2024. Following his arrest, a district court in Päijät-Häme ordered his detention, citing his role in “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.”
Speaking during a year-end review programme on Channels Television on Tuesday, Musa expressed satisfaction with Ekpa’s arrest and hinted at ongoing legal proceedings.
“Well, I’m sure he is cooling off somewhere. Legal action is going to be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say much about that, but I’m happy he has been arrested,” Musa stated.
Musa confirmed that the federal government has forwarded the majority of the required documents to Finnish authorities to facilitate Ekpa’s extradition.
“The Federal Government has actually forwarded most of the requirements to the Finnish Government. So, I’m sure the right thing will be done,” the CDS assured.
Ekpa, a Nigerian living in Finland, is known for his advocacy of Biafra’s secession and has been linked to violent campaigns in the southeastern region of Nigeria. His online activities have drawn widespread condemnation for promoting hate speech and inciting unrest.
The federal government’s move to extradite Ekpa is part of its broader strategy to address separatist agitation and ensure accountability for actions deemed detrimental to national security.
