Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party to capitalize on Nigeria’s youth population to secure a majority of elective positions at both the federal and state levels.
Shekarau made this call during the unveiling of the Board of Trustees of the Northern Forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the PDP in Abuja.
In his address, Shekarau encouraged the youth to rally behind the PDP as the credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He stressed that the 16 years of PDP governance were more robust and beneficial to Nigerians than the current situation.
Aruwa Ismaila, Chairman of the Northern Forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the PDP and North Central Zonal Youth Leader of the party, highlighted that the party’s social media platforms would be used to create awareness and rebuild the confidence of Nigerians, aiming to return the PDP to its former electoral successes.
Party leaders, including Hon. Enemona Anyebe, Kogi State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Joel E.B. Adagadzu, North Central Zonal Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Yunana Iliya, National Ex-Officio of the PDP, and Hon. Shaba Ibrahim, a former member of the House of Representatives, discussed the lack of internal democracy as a key factor contributing to the party’s failure to capture power at the federal level. Despite this, they expressed optimism that the PDP could reunite and regain power in future elections.
Other speakers, including party leaders and youth representatives, also called for unity within the PDP, urging leaders at all levels to collaborate and work towards moving the party from opposition to a governing force.
