A prominent Labour Party chieftain, Morris Monye, has criticized the former Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, for leaving a legacy of indiscriminate arrests.
Monye stated that under Bichi’s leadership, the DSS deviated from its professional standards and started arresting people indiscriminately, including tailors and individuals involved in petty civil matters, according to Politics Nigeria.
He contrasted this with the past, when the DSS would engage with individuals professionally if their statements threatened national security, only arresting them if necessary.
Monye expressed hope that the new DG, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, would reform the agency and restore its professionalism, prioritizing national security.
Monye who stated that the former Director General of the Department of State Services ”left a legacy of indiscriminat ”left a legacy of indiscriminate arrests” added that ”DSS of old will engage you professionally if they feel what you are saying threatens the security of the nation. They will want to know your thoughts. They were real patriots. If it was extreme then they would arrest you.”
“He, however, stated that under Bichi, ”the DSS later became an agency that were used to pick up tailors and even settle petty civil matters.”
”I hope the new DG reforms the agency that they remain professional for the security of the nation,” he added.
