A new twist has emerged in the suspension of Peter Babalola as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Babalola, a former Chief of Staff and former Governing Council Chairman of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, was suspended by the PDP in Ward 7, Irewole Local Government Area for alleged anti-party activities. However, in a surprising turn of events, Babalola has resigned his membership of the PDP.
According to a personally signed, handwritten letter addressed to the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, Babalola stated that he was resigning from the party “after careful reflection and consideration of my personal values, goals and the political direction I wish to pursue.” The letter, obtained by DAILY POST, was signed by Babalola at around 12 noon on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Babalola’s resignation comes after a history of political affiliations. He had previously defected from the Action Congress of Nigeria, which later became the All Progressives Congress, under the administration of Rauf Aregbesola. He later joined the PDP before the commencement of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration and was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.
It is worth noting that Babalola’s suspension by the PDP was due to alleged anti-party activities. However, with his resignation, it appears that Babalola has chosen to leave the party rather than face disciplinary actions.
The resignation letter, signed by Babalola, highlights his personal reasons for leaving the party. He stated that his decision was made “after careful reflection and consideration of my personal values, goals and the political direction I wish to pursue.” This suggests that Babalola has re-evaluated his political affiliations and has chosen to pursue a different path.
