Equatorial Guinea’s government has removed Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, following the discovery of around 400 explicit videos allegedly featuring him with prominent women from across the country.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered Engonga’s dismissal, which was confirmed by Real Equatorial Guinea citing Decree No. 118/2024, issued on November 4. The decree stated that Engonga was removed for alleged professional misconduct and personal behavior deemed incompatible with his role in public office.
The scandal emerged after several videos reportedly depicting Engonga in intimate encounters with high-profile women and relatives circulated online, igniting controversy on social media and drawing national attention.
In response, First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang publicly expressed her disapproval during a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue. Concerned for the privacy and dignity of Equatoguinean women, she urged the government to take swift action to shield them from such incidents.
In a statement from her Press Office on Facebook, the First Lady emphasized the need to protect women’s privacy and rights, especially in the digital age. She called for proactive measures to uphold a safe and respectful environment for women, underscoring that while progress has been made in advancing gender equality, efforts must continue to address issues threatening women’s dignity and security.
