The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims that the Enugu State Government’s official account was hacked, as recently circulated on social media.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the reports alleging a cyber breach resulting in the theft of N1.09 billion were completely false.
“The Nigeria Police Force dismisses the false narrative of an alleged hack of the Enugu State government’s official account, resulting in the theft of N1.09 billion,” Adejobi said. “This assertion is completely unfounded as the case had been investigated by the NPF-National Cyber Crime Centre.”
He further explained that the incident was not a cyber breach, but rather a case of procurement fraud. “The suspect was arrested and the funds recovered,” Adejobi added.
The police spokesperson also noted that the Enugu State Government, along with other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as corporate firms, had collaborated with the NPF-NCCC during the investigation. This partnership has led to the establishment of comprehensive and fortified security protocols to protect the state’s financial systems.
Adejobi urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to always verify the credibility of news sources before accepting them as fact.
