The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal has commenced the substantive hearing of the petition filed by Barrister Asue Ighodalo and the People’s Democratic Party, challenging the declaration of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the recently concluded gubernatorial election.
The Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) described the tribunal hearing as a crucial phase in the pursuit of electoral justice for the people of Edo State and Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Erhabor Emokpae in Benin City on Monday, TAMO reaffirmed the unwavering confidence of Ighodalo and the PDP in the judicial process. The group expressed belief that the evidence to be presented would reveal the truth and restore the democratic mandate of Edo citizens.
TAMO highlighted Ighodalo’s dedication to a peaceful and constructive approach throughout the tribunal process. “He calls on all supporters of democratic values to remain undaunted and maintain civility, despite heightened emotions,” the statement read.
The group also stressed the importance of accountability, urging all stakeholders to counter propaganda or violence with facts and transparency.
“In the battle for democracy, integrity, and the rights of every Edo citizen, TAMO encourages the public to remain engaged, as their active interest and involvement are vital in ensuring the success of this tribunal,” the statement added.
TAMO assured the public of timely and accurate updates as the hearings progress, pledging to actively counter misinformation. “Together, we can ensure that justice prevails and democracy is strengthened in Edo State,” it added.
The outcome of the tribunal will likely have significant implications for governance and democracy in the state, as both parties prepare to present their cases in the days ahead.
