The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to caution Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, and his supporters against attempting to disrupt the ongoing tribunal proceedings.
The APC accused Ighodalo of planning to use thugs loyal to him to invade the tribunal premises and disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the court.
The APC youths emphasized that any attempts to disrupt the tribunal’s activities by these alleged thugs would be met with strong resistance.
The party representatives stressed that Edo voters had already made their decision clear by voting for Governor Monday Okpebholo, and any attempt to seize power through unlawful means would be firmly opposed.
Mr. Kelly Okungbowa, a member of the APC youth wing, called on the IGP to take swift action and warn Ighodalo that any unruly behavior would have consequences. He appealed to the IGP to ensure the rule of law is upheld and to protect the tribunal from any disruption.
In addition, Mr. Monday Irabor, a youth leader within the APC, urged the PDP to respect the peace and avoid any actions that could destabilize the situation. He stated that the APC would not tolerate intimidation tactics and would defend the will of the people, adding that democracy thrives on respect for judicial processes.
The APC youths reiterated their commitment to a peaceful and fair electoral process, stating they were prepared to defend the democratic rights of the citizens of Edo State.
Okungbowa said, “We are using this medium to call on the IGP to call the PDP candidate to order and let him know that there will be consequences for any unruly action taken. We want to appeal to him to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and to protect the tribunal’s proceedings from any unruly behavior.”
” Our democracy thrives on order and respect for judicial processes. We believe in our electoral choice and will not stand by while intimidation tactics are employed against it. We urged the PDP and its candidate to toil the path of peace in their demands and allow the court to determine their fate,” Irabor said.
