The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, has reaffirmed his position as the authentic Deputy Governor, stating that he continues to perform his official duties as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
During a solidarity visit by the leadership and members of three recognized transport unions in Edo State, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, and Edo State Drivers Welfare Scheme, Omobayo stated: “I remain focused on supporting my principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, for the economic prosperity and transformation of Edo State. I am not in any way distracted by the ongoing litigations relating to the Office of the Deputy Governor.”
He expressed his appreciation for the unions’ overwhelming support since he assumed office and commended their loyalty to Governor Obaseki.
This statement is coming amid a litigation instituted by the re-instated deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, who was impeached by the state House of Assembly for leaking secrets of the government.
Earlier, Chairman of RTEAN, Comrade Monday Orhue, and his NURTW counterpart, Chief Odion Olaye, stated that the unions resolved to pay a solidarity visit to the Deputy Governor to reaffirm their total support to Governor Obaseki.
According to Chief Olaye: “We are here to pass a vote of confidence on Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo as the authentic and recognized Deputy Governor of Edo State. We are optimistic that the Obaseki-led administration will end well and finish strong.”
