Edo 2024: Votes count not prayers, ex-PFN president

The immediate past National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, has urged Edo State residents, particularly Christians, to participate actively in the upcoming governorship election by voting for the right candidate.

In a live broadcast, Omobude reminded the people that democracy offers the opportunity to choose their leaders and that INEC counts votes, not prayers.

He encouraged citizens to use their PVCs to elect their preferred leader, advising them to vet contestants’ track records and vote based on their credibility.

Omobude also prayed for peace and tranquility during and after the election, urging the people to vote their values and conscience, according to Independent.

He emphasized the need for Edo residents to show their knowledge and political enlightenment, without giving in to intimidation.

The election is scheduled for September 21, 2024. Omobude’s message echoes the importance of active participation in the electoral process, as emphasized by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who also stressed that INEC counts votes, not prayers.

Omobude during the broadcast said, “My dear good people of Edo state, I greet you all wherever you are. Democracy offers us the opportunity to participate in a process of choosing who governs us. Such opportunity is right in our doorstep and I know especially our faith community are praying for good governance; we have been praying for progress, and we have been praying for peace.

“And this is applauded but unfortunately INEC does not count prayers; INEC count votes and if you don’t have voters card and you have not registered, I enjoin you please do so and take advantage of the opportunity that democracy offers us.

“This time around, we must show the world that Edo people are knowledgeable and politically enlightened. No intimidation; don’t give yourself to any intimidation. Vote your values, vote your conscience.

“Look at the profile of those seeking your votes, what have they done before, do they have the capacity and credibility? The day is 21st September 2024, come out en masse and cast your vote.

“I pray for peace, I pray for safety, I pray for progress in Edo state. May God bless you.”
