The Labour Party has congratulated a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, over his victory at the just concluded LP Governorship primary election in Edo State.
LP in a statement via its X handle on Friday, congratulated Akpata, who scored 316 votes, to defeat other aspirants at the party’s primary election.
The former NBA President who declared interest in the Edo Governorship race at the LP secretariat in Benin City, the Edo State capital, in October 2023, was declared winner of the election, by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emeta, who served as the returning officer for the election.
Akpata, who had earlier thanked his supporters and party members for their support, after his victory, promised to work for the good people of the state if he wins the coming Governorship election in the state.
Congratulating him, LP tweeted: Former President of Nigeria Bar Association, Barr. Olumide Akpata has emerged winner of the @NgLabour Governorship primary for the September 2024 Edo State Governorship Election.
He scored 316 votes to beat other aspirants.
