The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State has praised the party stakeholders in the South East region for re-electing Chief Ali Odefa as the new zonal chairman.
In a press statement issued in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, on Thursday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Peter Nwele, expressed his approval of Odefa’s re-election. Nwele described the victory of Chief Ali Odefa in the recently concluded Elective Zonal Congress, held in Enugu State, as a victory for democracy and one that was well deserved.
The statement read in part, “It is our great honour and privilege to heartily felicitate with Chief Ali Odefa on his meritorious victory in the just concluded Elective Zonal Congress of our indomitable Party in Enugu State on 26th February, 2025. Our firm belief in your leadership is unwavering. We are optimistic that your wealth of experience in governance will be greatly harnessed in your next 4 years, in a bid to build a robust Democratic institution that thrives for all.”
Nwele commended Odefa’s efforts in preserving the image of the party in the Southeast, acknowledging his remarkable achievements during his first term. He added, “Your doggedness in preserving the image of our great Party in Southeast is unquantifiable. As you assume your new role despite serving your first term with remarkable achievements that left an indelible mark on the sands of time.”
The PDP Ebonyi leadership reassured Odefa of their unwavering support in strengthening the party in the Southeast. Nwele, in his statement, emphasized that the party’s focus should be on cohesion, unity, and cooperative coexistence within the party, which he described as the largest political organization in the West African sub-region. He further urged Odefa to prioritize these elements during his tenure as the new zonal chairman.
On the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, Nwele affirmed the readiness of the PDP in Ebonyi State to collaborate with the zonal leadership to ensure electoral success. “As you’re aware, the PDP in Ebonyi State is deeply rooted and we can boast of our 100% votes in the 2027 general election across all wards,” Nwele stated.
He also congratulated other Zonal officials who emerged victorious in the election and assured them of the Ebonyi State PDP’s support in the future. “The PDP in Ebonyi State is faced with an enormous task, but we will defy all distractions and contribute meaningfully to its growth and sustainability,” he added.
Nwele also took the opportunity to commend the efforts of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State, praising his role in making the PDP viable and competitive. “We’re undoubtedly aware that Ali Odefa will deliver on his mandate beyond our expectation,” Nwele concluded, pledging that the Ebonyi State PDP would offer maximum support for Odefa’s success in his new assignment.
