Prominent human rights lawyer, Barrister Abba Hikima, has called on the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, to persist in advising the federal government on economic issues despite their strained relationship.
Hikima made the appeal on his verified Facebook page, emphasizing that the Emir has a moral responsibility to contribute to the nation’s progress.
Hikima encouraged Emir Sanusi to not let personal differences prevent him from offering guidance to the government. He highlighted the Emir’s long-standing belief that Nigeria’s economic challenges are both “predictable” and “avoidable,” but lamented that the government lacks credible experts to provide effective solutions.
The lawyer also criticized the Emir’s silence on national economic matters, suggesting that it might be a result of his fallout with the government. Hikima questioned why Emir Sanusi, who is well-versed in the causes and solutions to Nigeria’s economic issues, would abandon his moral duty due to a broken relationship with the authorities.
Hikima’s remarks come amid wider discussions about the role of traditional leaders in addressing national concerns. He urged Emir Sanusi to put the nation’s welfare above personal grievances and continue offering vital insights to help tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges.
“You shouldn’t stop advising the federal government just because you’re no longer friends,” Hikima said.
” Why should Emir Sanusi, who understands the causes of Nigeria’s economic woes and the solutions, abandon his moral duty simply because of a broken relationship with the government?” he questioned.
