The Federal Government has been advised not to prosecute those who have voluntarily returned what they stole to the nation.
A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, Celestine Chukwunenye, who gave the advice in a statement, said that probing repentant looters would result in a waste of scarce financial resources.
He said the country is blessed with abundant experts who understand its economic system, according to the Independent.
On recovery of stolen national assets through bogus or inflated contracts, Chukwunenye said “Those who voluntarily return what they stole should not be prosecuted” to avoid the waste of scarce financial resources on the knotty court cases.
He, however, suggested that adequate security should be given to local governments to enable them to adequately protect their residents.
He added that political prisoners should be set free and handed over to their states for appropriate rehabilitation and management.
