The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has issued an apology to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress following accusations of undermining the party.
The controversy stemmed from remarks Doguwa made during the Ede Day celebrations, where he represented Speaker Tajudeen Abass.
His comments, made in the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke, were perceived by the Osun APC as damaging to the party’s reputation. The party’s spokesperson, Mr. Kola Olabisi, condemned the statements in a release, accusing Doguwa of de-marketing the APC, according to Leadership.
In response, Doguwa clarified that his comments had been misrepresented. He explained that the Peoples Democratic Party media team in Osun had twisted his words to serve their own political agenda. Doguwa reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating that he remains a proud and loyal member of the party, which he helped establish.
He further expressed regret for any misunderstanding caused by his remarks and extended a heartfelt apology to the Osun APC. Doguwa assured that his comments were never intended to harm the party, emphasizing that the APC would reclaim Osun State in the 2026 governorship elections.
The APC leader also stressed that he will continue to promote the party across the country, as he remains a key figure in its national leadership.
“I was quoted out of context. Honestly, the PDP media team in Osun misused my jokes to attack our party, APC, in the context of their local political tussles. It was indeed quite unfortunate; they used my innocent comments to score cheap political gains,” Doguwa said.
However, apologising to the party in Osun State, Doguwa said, “I wish to tender my sincere and unreserved apology to our APC family in Osun State. Please accept my profound and heartfelt apologies. By God’s grace, the days of the PDP are numbered in Osun State. In 2026, our party will bounce back in the state, Insha Allah.”
“I will always remain a loyal and proud member of the APC, the largest political party in Africa. As a founding member of the APC, I’m the chief promoter of the party not only in Kano but across the country.
“I urge my APC compatriots in Osun to accept my apologies for what may have appeared to be underlying comments or statements against my party. I never meant to undermine or embarrass my mother’s party for any reason whatsoever. Thank you,” he stated.
