The immediate past Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress will emerge stronger as the 2027 elections approach in Delta State.
Speaking at a meeting with APC leaders and stakeholders in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Omo-Agege urged party leaders to build on the successes of the previous election and continue to strengthen the party’s presence in the region.
He pointed out that if other local governments had performed as well as Ughelli North, the APC would have secured power in the Delta State Government House.
Omo-Agege also called on the people of Delta State to hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori accountable for the proper use of state funds. He emphasized that the significant financial allocations to the state should be invested in the development of the region and the empowerment of its citizens, urging the public to demand transparency in how these funds are being spent.
Earlier in the meeting, APC chieftain and former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Oshevire, proposed a vote of confidence in Omo-Agege’s leadership of Delta APC.
The motion was unanimously supported by party leaders and stakeholders in attendance.
Omo-Agege highlighted the fact that APC had won two senatorial seats in the last election, challenging the narrative that Delta is a stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party.
He expressed optimism that with unity among party leaders and members, APC would be able to take over the state in 2027.
He stressed the importance of consolidating gains in Delta Central and Delta South, where the party had won, while focusing on rebuilding the party in Delta North, which he described as the weakest link. He also noted the recent addition of political figure Hon. Erhiatake Ibori to the APC as a positive development for the party’s future prospects.
Omo-Agege criticized Governor Oborevwori’s handling of state finances, urging Deltans to question how the substantial funds allocated to the state have been spent. He pointed out that despite claims of infrastructure projects such as bridge construction, large sums of money remained unaccounted for.
The meeting was attended by key APC figures, including the Acting State Chairman of APC, Barr. Francis Obigbor, State Secretary Surv. Peter Akarogbe, Chief Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, APC Leader in Ughelli North Prof. Ibodje, Chief Engr. Joseph Asa, Dr. Otive Igbuzo, APC House of Assembly members, and other prominent party figures.
“What we need to do know is to build on the gains of the last election and consolidate on the area that we did very well, while devising a strategies to overcome our area weakness ahead of 2027 election.
“We won in Delta Central and Delta South, so we need to consolidate on these two senatorial district. We lost in Delta North, therefore, we need to rebuild that party in Delta North, because they are the weakest link.
“Only two days ago as part of our consolidation efforts we were able to attract a political juggernaut, rhe real Lioness of the NIger Delta, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori and her teaming support into Delta APC.
“I also want Deltans to ask Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on how he is spending our money, because the money he is spending today is oir money, money meant for the development of the State and to empower Deltans, so we as a people must hold him to account.
“Delta has received over N900b in the past one year and six months, that is even more than the total allocation going to the 5 states in the South East, but what is Sheriff doing with it, he will say he is building bridges, how much is the bridge? Building of flyover bridge is good, he is using N86b for the bridges. However you subtract N86b from over N900b, we have over N700b, going through Delta State can you tell where such money was spent, this is why Deltans should begin to ask questions,” he added.
