The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission has announced a one-week postponement of the local government elections.
Initially scheduled for October 26, 2024, the elections will now hold on November 2, 2024, account to Nigerian Tribune.
CROSIEC Chairman, Dr. Ekong Boco, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday.
The decision aims to ensure a fair and credible electoral process. Campaign activities will conclude on November 1, 2024.
In related news, CROSIEC reduced nomination fees following an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council.
Chairmanship nomination fees decreased from N5 million to N1 million, while Councillorship fees dropped from N1 million to N200,000.
IPAC hailed CROSIEC’s decision as a positive step towards free, fair, and credible elections, promoting equal opportunities for all political parties to serve the people of Cross River.
