The Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Robert Ewa, has passed away.
His death was confirmed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, who disclosed that Mr Ewa died on Wednesday evening at Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the state capital.
Mr Ewa had attended the State Executive Council meeting earlier on Wednesday, presided over by Governor Bassey Otu. According to Mr Gill, Ewa actively participated in the meeting and even made contributions before excusing himself.
“Ewa died yesterday. He was present at the state executive council meeting. He even contributed during the presentation,” Gill said. “A few minutes later, he excused himself and I think his driver drove him to the clinic. So we never knew that he went to a hospital.
“So it was from the hospital that he went to, that news came back to the governor that he had died.”
Gill further stated that Governor Otu received the news with shock and grief. A formal press release is expected to be issued to provide additional details.
Robert Ewa was a respected public servant with a history of dedicated service. He served as Secretary and later Chairman of the Boki Local Government Council. Additionally, he held roles as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force.
