The Federal High Court in Gusau, has issued an order preventing the Zamfara State House of Assembly from removing the APC lawmaker representing Talata Mafara South Constituency Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara.
This development was made public in a statement on Monday by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau.
According to the statement, the ruling followed Kagara’s legal challenge against his removal from office, which he filed under lawsuit No. FHC/GSCS/10/2025.
The lawsuit named the state Assembly, its Speaker, and the Independent National Electoral Commission as respondents.
Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim, presiding over the case, granted an interim injunction that restrains INEC from conducting a bye-election to fill the vacant seat.
The court further ordered that the status quo be maintained until further hearings. The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025.
In a related development, the Zamfara State Assembly has suspended nine lawmakers from various parties, reducing its membership below the two-thirds majority required to pass legislation.
