The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to tackling security challenges posed by terrorists in the North East and North West regions.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday at the Theatre Command North East Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Oluyede outlined the army’s plans to strengthen its operations and adapt to emerging security threats.
“We have rephrased our strategies and are bringing in more platforms and resources to support the troops in their positions,” he said. “This is to ensure they have the necessary tools to perform their duties effectively. That’s why I am here.
“And I think I have achieved that aim. So we are going to go back to Abuja, see how we can add more to their platforms, support them in their positions, and I am sure we will get better results.”
Oluyede highlighted that the army’s efforts have significantly contributed to peace and stability in many parts of the country. However, he acknowledged that challenges persist in Zamfara State and other areas in the northwest.
“Regarding Zamfara and the northwest in general, we are reappraising operations in the region,” he stated. “We plan to deploy advanced technology and strengthen our approach to make things better. I will be visiting the northwest next week to oversee these efforts.”
The COAS also cited specific instances where proactive measures have yielded results, referencing a recent operation in Sokoto State.
“When the issue of the Lukurawa people in Sokoto came up, I visited to assess the situation, and significant progress has been made,” he said.
Reiterating the army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace nationwide, Oluyede called on the public to support the military’s efforts. “Public support is essential to achieving our security objectives. Together, we can enhance the stability and prosperity of our nation,” he added.
