Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove what he referred to as “excess baggage” within his administration.
Governor Mohammed expressed confidence in the President’s leadership but criticized the actions of certain cabinet members, stating that they are undermining his efforts.
He emphasized the need for the President to take decisive action by “throwing away the excess baggage.” Mohammed made these remarks as the special guest during the commissioning of the 14.1km Umuakali-Eberi Road in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.
During his address, the Bauchi Governor stressed that governance, rather than politics, should be the primary focus across the country. He commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for delivering effective governance despite political challenges, expressing full confidence in Fubara’s leadership abilities.
Governor Mohammed also praised Governor Fubara’s handling of the state’s political crisis, highlighting his composure, maturity, and exceptional leadership style. He remarked that political maturity is not necessarily defined by years in office, and emphasized that Fubara’s achievements in governance position him more as a “field marshal” than a “general.”
In addition, the Bauchi State Governor urged the people of Rivers State to support Governor Fubara for a second term in the 2027 election. He also advised politicians to recognize when to step aside and allow the younger generation to take the reins.
In his own speech, Governor Siminalayi Fubara thanked the people of Omuma for their continued support, particularly during the political crisis in the state. He credited the smooth operation of his administration to the collective efforts of the people and the backing of key political leaders.
Governor Fubara described the Umuakali-Eberi Road project as a major milestone for the region’s development and expressed his gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for attending the commissioning. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, emphasizing that his focus is on building a team of capable individuals to drive development, rather than promoting individuals.
As part of his plans for continued progress, Governor Fubara announced that his administration would take over the renovation of a secondary school and healthcare center in the area from the Local Government Chairman, Promise Reginald. He also pledged to reconstruct additional roads, reaffirming his dedication to delivering good governance in the state.
