A court of appeal sitting in Abuja, has granted the President-elect and the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the last presidential election in Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the access to inspect the the electoral materials, used by the Independent National Electoral Commission, during the Saturday February 25 presidential election in Nigeria.
Asiwaju Tinubu had on Tuesday approached the court, through his lawyer, Mr Akintola Makinde, to order the Independent National Electoral Commission to grant him access to sensitive materials it used for the presidential election.
Mr Makinde said, his principal would need to inspect, scan and make photocopies of some of the electoral materials, to enable him prepare his defence against petitions, seeking to nullify his election.
His first ex-parte application, filed on the 3rd of march, has Labour Party party and its presidential, Peter Obi as respondent, while the second application has Peoples Democratic Party, and its candidate, Ahaji Atiku Abubakar, and INEC as respondents.
The lawyer representing the President-elect, said, “The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server.”
Asiwaju Tinubu was declared winner of the last presidential election on Wednesday March 1, 2023, after polling a score of 8,724,726 votes, and received his certificate of return, the same day.
