The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has distanced itself from the alleged inauguration of a “Leadership Council” in the party’s Delta State chapter.
In a statement released on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka clarified that the national leadership of the party did not sanction the formation of the council. He stressed that no such approval had been granted by the NWC.
“The NWC did not approve the inauguration or operation of the ‘Leadership Council’ in the Delta state chapter of our party, as claimed by reports,” the statement said.
Morka further highlighted that the “Leadership Council” has no constitutional basis, as it is not recognized as a statutory organ, structure, or committee under the APC’s constitution.
“The Party’s constitution spells out its statutory organs, structures, and committees, along with their respective powers and functions. The ‘Leadership Council’ is not one of such constitutional organs, ad hoc structures, or committees of the Party,” he added.
This clarification comes amid growing concerns over the authenticity of the council and its potential impact on party unity in Delta State.
Meanwhile, the excitement and preparations for the inauguration among party leaders have been put on hold following the unexpected news of the NWC’s disclaimer.
