A distinguished diplomat and former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku, has lauded Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo for his efforts in constructing a new Government House and Governor’s Lodge.
Anyaoku made the remarks on Tuesday during a visit to the ongoing Government House project and other developments in Awka, where he toured the site alongside Governor Soludo.
The former Commonwealth Secretary-General praised Soludo’s foresight, calling him a “visionary planner” who appeared to have accounted for every possible need of the state. He emphasized the strategic design of the Government House, which harmonizes the various branches of government, including the judiciary and the state assembly.
“These buildings are meant to last, and I believe no future governor of Anambra will need to construct anything more in terms of a residence or the office of the governor,” Anyaoku stated. He described the project as an “extraordinary achievement” and extended his congratulations to Governor Soludo and his administration for the successful execution of the vast construction.
In response, Governor Soludo expressed his satisfaction that the 33-year wait for a suitable Government House and Lodge would soon come to an end. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building structures that would stand the test of time and benefit future generations.
The governor also took the opportunity to acknowledge Anyaoku as “Africa’s most distinguished statesman” and thanked him for personally inspecting the ongoing projects.
He said, “I must commend Governor Soludo for being a visionary planner. The synchronisation of the arms of government — the Government House with the judiciary and the state assembly requires a visionary planner.
“As I have seen, these buildings are meant to last. I cannot see a future governor of Anambra building anything more in terms of residence or the office of the governor. It is tremendous.
“This is an extraordinary achievement, and I would like to congratulate Governor Soludo and his administration for leading this vast construction,’’ Mr Anyaoku said.
