A governorship aspirant in Anambra’s upcoming November 8 election, John Nwosu, has expressed his willingness to support any coalition formed to prevent the re-election of Governor Charles Soludo.
Speaking with journalists in Awka on Monday, Nwosu, who is running on the Labour Party platform, criticized the current government, stating that it has been the worst in Anambra since the fourth republic.
He emphasized that the state urgently requires change, even if it means a coalition of individuals committed to offering a better future for the people of Anambra.
Nwosu also argued that the state’s developments do not reflect the increased resources it has received.
He highlighted that the government’s claimed infrastructure projects are not in line with the state’s revenue over the past three years, and he criticized the focus on infrastructure at the expense of peace, security, and the quality of life.
He revealed that discussions around a coalition are ongoing, with a common goal to end what he described as a disastrous administration. Nwosu stressed that Anambra’s interests should take priority over personal ambitions, and if a coalition is necessary to remove Governor Soludo and his supporters from power, he would support it.
Nwosu further expressed his commitment to being part of any such coalition, emphasizing the need for collective action to bring about a change for Anambra. He expressed confidence that the 2025 election will be free and fair, with the people of Anambra now better informed to make the right decisions.
Regarding the Labour Party primaries, Nwosu stated that only one candidate will emerge after the April 5 primaries. He added that he would support whichever candidate that emerges from the process, whether it is him or another aspirant.
The politician said, “The new infrastructure the government claims to have built are hardly commensurate with the revenue the state has garnered in three years. Focusing on infrastructure at the expense of peace, security and quality of life is counterproductive.
“In fact, talks about coalition are ongoing. The common denominator is the collective will to bring this disastrous administration to an end.”
Mr Nwosu added, “Anambra’s interest supersedes any personal interests or ambitions. If it will take a coalition of like minds to stop Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and his cabal, so be it.
“I am ready to be part of that coalition. We must all get involved in rescuing Anambra.”
Mr Nwosu said he was confident that the 2025 election would be free and fair and that the masses are now aware enough to make the right choice.
“I believe the people of Anambra state will get the government they deserve if they turn out boldly to vote for such a government.
“There will only be one LP candidate after the April 5 primaries. If it is me, I will expect my fellow aspirants to rally around and support me. If it is someone else, I will do the same,” Mr Nwosu explained.
