The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has, on Tuesday, expressed uncertainty regarding the current political affiliation of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Tony Okocha, the state caretaker committee chairman, revealed that Amaechi has distanced himself from the APC, citing an incident where Amaechi reprimanded the party’s state secretary for inviting him to a stakeholders’ meeting.
Okocha stated that Amaechi instructed that no further invitations be sent to him, leaving the party leadership unsure about his status within the party.
The APC chairman also denied claims that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, controls the party in Rivers State, emphasizing that Wike is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and has no influence over the APC in the state, according to TheNation.
Okocha clarified that while Wike, as a minister under the APC government, may have some level of interaction with the party, he does not attend APC meetings or exert any control over the party’s affairs in Rivers State.
He said: “I have no question to answer. I was Chief of Staff to Rotimi Amaechi, recall that at one point he got into Law School and after one year in Law School he became incommunicado. You are also aware that after the presidential primary election, he disappeared into the tin air.
“So whether he is still a party member or not I wouldn’t know because all the meetings we called, I give you an example of a meeting we called for all the former governors and ministers, he (Amaechi) sent a message to the Secretary of the party and warned him never dare send him a message about the party again.
“So when you meet him ask him where he belongs, for me, I don’t know where he belongs.”
