The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party in Akwa bom State, Bassey Albert, has dumped YPP for the All Progressives Congress.
Recall that Albert lost the 2023 governorship election to Governor Umo Eno, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He will be received on Friday, January 17 by the party in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state.
Among those expected to receive him include the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and 10 other senators.
A source disclose that the senators are already in the state to receive Albert into the party.
The source added that the senate president who had also served as the state governor for two terms, was acting on the order of President Bola Tinubu.
“The senators are already in town, they are lodging at a hotel in Ikot Ekpene. Akpabio, yesterday, had a meeting with Oba (Mr Albert is popularly known as Oba in Akwa Ibom) and his supporters who are already defecting to the APC.
“Akpabio is not acting on his own, it’s a directive from Tinubu that he and other senators should come over to Akwa Ibom to receive Oba,” the source hinted.
The chairperson of the contact and mobilisation committee of Albert’s governorship campaign council, Daniel Udoh, has also confirmed the development.
