Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, has disclosed that about 13,000 Ad-hoc staff would be deployed for the local government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
Ikoiwak made the disclosure on Monday at the State headquarters of the Commission along Udo Udoma avenue, Uyo, while briefing newsmen on the level preparations so far made by the Commission towards the conduct of the elections.
He noted that, however, about seventeen thousand residents of the state who have indicated interest to be recruited as Adhoc staff in the elections have already applied through online portal
He disclosed that a total of twelve political parties have been cleared to participate in the elections.
His words, “This interaction is for us to look at issues that affects the forthcoming local government elections, to look at where we are now, and where we are going. Twelve 12 political parties will take part in the elections.
“Campaigns by political parties will stop midnight of October 3, 2024.
“And we have so far procured all the materials and very soon the non-sensitive materials will be moved from here (state headquarters) to the local government areas, while the sensitive materials will arrive the Local Government Areas on the 4th of October.
“We have also received close to 17,000 names of people who applied to be Adhoc staff for the elections. We had opened a portal giving every Nigerian who resides in Akwa Ibom state, interested to be part of Ad-hoc staff for them to apply.
“We have downloaded their names and we are going to do some level of selection to reduce that number to the number that would be required for the elections.”
