As the crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly continues to spark reactions, former lawmaker Jude Idimogu has called on the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to accept his removal with grace and avoid exacerbating political tensions in the state.
Idimogu, who served as the representative for Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2 from 2015 to 2023, emphasized that Obasa was neither the first nor the last Speaker to be removed by colleagues.
He urged Obasa to embrace peace and recognize that leadership positions are temporary.
The former lawmaker pointed out that Obasa had the privilege of serving in the Assembly for over 20 years and should be grateful for the opportunity, rather than attempting to destabilize the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“Obasa is not greater than the 39 other members of the House. The APC leadership, led by President Bola Tinubu, has been good to him. If I were him, I would go and do thanksgiving,” Idimogu said.
Idimogu accused Obasa of treating his colleagues like subordinates and ruling with an authoritarian approach. He described Obasa’s removal as divine, urging the former Speaker to seek forgiveness from both God and his fellow lawmakers.
He further warned that if Obasa continues his current actions, worse consequences may follow. Idimogu advised Obasa to refrain from dragging the APC into unnecessary turmoil and allow the courts to handle the legal case he has filed.
Idimogu also highlighted that the collective influence of the 39 lawmakers outweighs that of Obasa, adding that their loyalty will be crucial in President Tinubu’s potential second-term bid.
“His time as Speaker is over. He should lick his wounds and accept his fate. If he refuses to attend sittings, it is the people of Agege Constituency 1 who will suffer,” Idimogu hinted .
