A group known as Arewa Support Tinubu has pledged overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections, reaffirming their commitment to his leadership.
The declaration was made during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, where the group passed a vote of confidence on the president.
The group’s chairman, Hon. Joseph Maiwada, addressed the media, stating that their backing for President Tinubu, which was initially fueled by their vigorous campaign for his emergence, continues due to the notable achievements of his administration over the past year. Maiwada highlighted the government’s efforts to improve security, particularly in the northern region, where significant strides have been made in tackling terrorism and banditry. He noted that, in 2024 alone, security forces neutralized over 8,000 terrorists and bandits, arrested 11,600 individuals, and recovered more than 10,000 weapons.
The chairman also emphasized other key initiatives of the administration, including the Students Loan Fund and the Consumer Credit Corporation. These programs, designed to empower students and workers, have already benefited over 300,000 students. Maiwada lauded President Tinubu for his bold steps in addressing security challenges, including increased funding for the military and security agencies, as well as the promotion of community policing and conflict resolution.
Looking ahead, Maiwada reiterated the group’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to foster sustainable growth and improve the lives of Nigerians. He also pointed out that President Tinubu’s administration has made significant strides in economic development, security, and social welfare, with particular emphasis on benefiting the northern region. Notable among these efforts is the appointment of prominent northern figures to key positions within the government, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Minister of Defense, and Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, among others.
Abdullah Gumel, the leader of the group in Jigawa State, also spoke at the event, commending President Tinubu for addressing the security challenges in the north. Gumel noted that the region had seen improvements, with citizens now able to travel by road without the fear of kidnapping by bandits or insurgents.
He added that the group’s decision to hold the press conference was to express their unwavering support for the president. Gumel acknowledged the difficulties faced by the president but attributed some of the challenges to political propaganda from opposition figures seeking to undermine the administration. He concluded by reaffirming their commitment to the president, stating that the group, as proud members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will support President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
“In terms of security, President Tinubu has taken bold steps to address the challenges facing the country. He has increased funding for the military and security agencies, and has launched initiatives to promote community policing and conflict resolution.
“As we move forward, we are committed to supporting the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, and to working with all stakeholders to ensure its success. We believe that with the support of Nigerians and the international community, we can achieve our goals and create a brighter future for our country.
“Overall, President Tinubu’s projects in the North have focused on economic development, security, and social welfare, with a goal of improving the lives of Nigerians and promoting sustainable growth.
” Notable among the renewed hope benefits to the north is the appointment of Arewa sons and daughters into positions in his government, including; the SGF, minister of defense, humanitarian among others but few to mention,” Wada said.
” We have decided to hold this press conference to express our total support to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As Nigerians we have seen different political dispensations but what we are seeing now under President Tinubu is quite wonderful achievements.
Before you cross a river you must endure some difficulties, Mr President has tried in various ways but due to political propaganda from unscrupulous politicians from the country who want to see the exit of APC administration come 2027. Whosoever that is going against Tinubu administration is doing so at the detriment of Nigeria.
“We want to tell the whole world our position today that we as bonafide citizens of Nigeria and proud members of APC as a party who worked for the success of the administration we are now here under the umbrella of northern Nigeria we are passing vote of confidence on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We promised to vote for him again come 2027,” he said.
