The Accord Party has called on the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take effective measures to address key issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and power supply in the coming year.
In a goodwill message to Nigerians, the party emphasized the need for unity, prayers, peace, tolerance, and patriotism among citizens. It stressed that all individuals must contribute to ensuring good governance and progressive leadership in the country.
Signed by Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Chairman of Accord, the message acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians in the past year, particularly following the removal of the oil subsidy and the floating of the naira, which led to skyrocketing costs of living. The inflation rate reached 34.6%, marking the highest in decades.
The party expressed that overcoming these challenges requires putting aside partisan and sectional interests, fostering unity, and promoting sustainable development that benefits citizens. It also emphasized the importance of active participation from all citizens to strengthen the nation’s democracy.
Accord further urged the Federal Government to prioritize the creation of an enabling environment for economic growth, as well as empowerment for women and youth, food security, power supply, and political stability. The statement underscored that national security is essential for progress, calling for intensified efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, banditry, militancy, and kidnapping in 2025.
The party also called for improved equipment and motivation for security agencies to effectively carry out their constitutional duties. While recognizing the progress made in security, it urged the government to continue supporting the military in their efforts to restore safety and order. The Accord Party expressed its solidarity with the brave soldiers on the frontlines.
Finally, the party appealed to Nigerians to hold government officials accountable at all levels, emphasizing that this is the only way to strengthen the nation’s democracy and return power to the people, as sovereignty resides with them.
“This will be achieved if we set aside partisan and primordial interests, be in one accord and foster sustainable development that will improve the well-being of citizens. A robust democracy depends on the equal and active participation of the populace,” the statement added.
“Accord urges the Federal Government to sit up and create an enabling
environment for economic development, women and youth empowerment, food sufficiency, power supply and political stability.
“There cannot be progress without national security. The fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, militancy, kidnapping etc, should be intensified and crushed in 2025.
“Security agencies should be well equipped and motivated to discharge their constitutional duties. We note with pride the progress made so far and urge our gallant soldiers on the front lines to push for total victory. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in restoring public safety and order.
“Join us to hold governments at all levels accountable. It is the only way to strengthen the nation’s democracy and return power to the people on who sovereignty resides.”
