Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that he was not a close associate of President Bola Tinubu.
In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai explained that during the 2022 presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress, he was indifferent about who became the party’s candidate.
His primary concern, he stated, was ensuring that a Southerner emerged as the APC flagbearer, regardless of who that individual was.
“I was indifferent on who became the presidential candidate of APC,” El-Rufai said. “The only thing I was determined to do was to stop a Northerner from becoming the candidate of the party based on what I know.”
He further emphasized that when the APC was formed in 2013, there had been an agreement that after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years, power would shift to the South.
“Tinubu was never my friend, we weren’t close,” El-Rufai added.
